Dr Kirsty Williamson is a neurodiversity affirming clinical psychologist who has a particular interest and expertise in working with women who are experiencing stress, anxiety and low mood. As a mother of two young children, she is also dedicated to helping families flourish by supporting them to develop a greater capacity for resiliency and emotional wellbeing.

Kirsty’s therapeutic style is warm, authentic and compassionate. It is her intention to create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere so that her clients can feel safe and supported in sharing their challenges and difficulties. She adopts a variety of evidence-based techniques and tailors them to the specific needs and preferences of the people she works with. She embraces neurodiversity affirmative practices, and provides clients with concrete strategies to help them achieve their goals. She teaches habits of resiliency, so that clients can live meaningful, purpose driven lives.

In addition to traditional approaches to mental health, Kirsty is interested in exploring creative ways to support clients’ meaningful engagement with psychological strategies and techniques. Over the years, Kirsty has found personal benefit in using the creative process as a tool for coping and personal growth, and she is currently investigating innovative ways of combining psychology and the creative process to promote social and emotional wellbeing in a community setting.

Kirsty has over 20 years experience working in human services. She started her career working as a support worker, supporting families of children with disabilities. She worked as a support worker for 7 years, providing direct support to children and adults with disabilities. At this time, she became particularly interested in understanding and supporting siblings of children with disabilities and as such, her Honours thesis examined the sibling relationship between children with a disability and typically developing children. She also coordinated a program to support siblings of children with disabilities.

As a psychologist, Kirsty has also worked across a diverse range of settings. She has worked for James Cook University, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the Divisions of General Practice, Queensland Health, the Department of Disability Services and more recently in private practice on the Sunshine Coast. She has also provided consultation services to not-for-profit organisations.

*Please note, Kirsty only works with clients 18+. She does not work with children or men.
